Craft Room Cleansing | Bernina Sew N Quilt Studio
Has it been a summer full of quilting bliss since you last took some time to do some deep cleaning? Let’s start September off right by taking time again to clean and organize your crafting space!
Declutter
The first thing that needs to be done to clean any working space is to simply declutter it! No matter how daunting a large crafting space may seem, this can be done easily by taking it one surface or shelf at a time!
Start by removing everything from this surface. This is a great opportunity to create piles of things you want to keep, things that you need for your next exciting project, and things that you need to get rid of.
Next, thoroughly clean your newly cleared off space. Dust, polish, vacuum, clean out all the crevices. Leave it looking like new!
Put everything that you know you want to keep back in its appropriate place, and move on to the next surface or shelf!
Don’t have the perfect place for each thing, or have too many things? Keep reading - we’ll talk about de-stashing and getting organized next!
De-stash
This may be tough to read, but a key part of getting your sewing space cleaned up and ready for this fall’s big projects is to go through your supplies and de-stash. Make things easier on yourself by sorting your supplies by category (e.g.: fabrics, bobbins, etc.) as you clear them off surfaces in the declutter phase of cleaning.
Carefully consider the items that you really want to keep, items you know you’d rather donate, and items you’re considering keeping but aren’t sure about. You may find that as you start sorting your things into these groups, it becomes easier to part with items and purge your collection!
Get Organized
The last and most important part of cleaning up your sewing space is to get it organized to make future cleaning sessions a breeze!
First, find a creative way to store your most frequently used supplies in plain sight. Sorting by color is an effective way to store your fabrics and threads, and will make them easy to find (and fun to look at!). You can even turn wall space into visible storage space with creative pegboard storage or a mudroom wall organizer!
Use labeled baskets or containers to store your items that aren’t in plain sight. The baskets or containers that you use will tie the room together, and the labels will make your supplies easy to hunt down.
