Cleaning Up Your Crafting Space
Hit the ground running on your winter crafting with some early spring cleaning! Organizing your sewing space will help you to tidy up your home and set you up for sewing success.
Step 1: Take stock of your supplies
The first part of getting organized is to go through everything you have. You may find it helpful to bring all of your materials, tools and notions out of your crafting area so that you can clearly see what you own. This is a great opportunity to rediscover fabrics, threads or accessories that you might have forgotten about - and also a great time to purge or donate any supplies that you know you won’t use in the future. It might help to write down some future projects that you’re planning, and separate all of your items by project and/or function.
Step 2: Sort your stuff
Now that you’ve taken stock of your supplies, it’s time to get things organized! Designate a functional portion and a storage portion of your craft area. Install shelves (if you don’t have shelves in your craft area already) and gather storage containers that fit your needs - clear plastic containers work very well for keeping your materials contained but visible!
Step 3: Put everything in its place
Keep your commonly used items - like threads, needles and other tools (and of course your Bernina sewing machine!) - as accessible as possible with shelves or bins or open containers in plain sight. Store your fabrics and less-used items in clear bins, on shelves, or on hangers. Make the organization of your supplies attractive and easy to access by sorting by project or by color.
